"Welcome Home, Baby Girl!"
When we met, Uncle Larry had huge alligator tears in his eyes and long lanky arms that he wrapped around me tightly. He choked a bit when he said to me, “We’ve waited a long time for this day, but you’ve finally made it back home! You’ve come back to us!”
Home? Home… Yes, it took me a long time, but I finally made it back home.
Most people don't get second chances, but Kim did. After finding her birth family and answers she'd longed to hear, the journey to healing began. Through many tearful conversations with her lost family, she learned much. But nothing could have prepared her for the lessons that were still in store for her.
From dealing with rebellious children, family members who turned their backs on her after her first book, Gypsy Phoenix A Birthright of Hope, was published, and a husband who was dianosed with a disabling illness - it's all included in Gypsy Phoenix Good 'Nuff.
Walk the path with her, fall in love with the family she never knew she had, and grow strong with her as she learns valuable lessons of life.
Kimberly Thompson is the author of four published books; both Gypsy Phoenix autobiographies; A Birthright of Hope and Good 'Nuff, as well as two published fictional Christian romantic novels.
The Legend of the Swamps series begins with Uncle Frank and the Search for the Alligator King, and continues in A Mess of Fish. Her third installment in the Legends series, Summer in the South, is due to be released later in 2013.
Kim and her husband, Keith,
currently live in Baskin, Louisiana.

If this saying cracks you up, you'll love this book. If not, better skip it. This author is Southern with a capital "S" and her story is a complicated one of a child raised in a family where love was in short supply. She was raised by adoptive parents. It's interesting that her future husband, after meeting her family for the first time, had the immediate reaction, " You MUST be adopted! There's no WAY you're related to those people." He didn't know it at the time, but he was right! In this, the author's second book, she tells of finding her birth mother and the joy of being loved and accepted by her birth family simply because she was HERSELF. I've read other books by adoptees, but never one that makes it so clear that giving a child up for adoption is a loss for the entire family, not just for the birth mother. I don't mean to say that I am opposed to adoption, but it's a tough decision and one that may haunt the birth family for years to come.
While the author is getting to know her birth family, life goes on (as it always does.) Her adoptive mother dies and her adoptive father remarries. She is estranged from and then reunited with her daughter and grandson and a granddaughter is born. Her son enters the military and survives a horrible car wreck. Her husband is diagnosed with a serious progressive disease that forces him into early retirement.
Some readers may not find interest in an ordinary working woman's life. Some may be offended by her frequent references to her faith and how it has helped her survive hard times. I found her story touching and compelling. I think she speaks for many good, simple people who go through life trying to do the best they can for others. She has my admiration.
